– The best way to book flights/accommodation. Is it better to stay in a hotel or apartment – any recommendations?
There are various ways to book, you can either book as a package deal with a travel agent where you can get both your flight and accommodation as one price, or you can book flight and accommodation individually. In term of what would be better would be base on how many people would be going? if it 2-6 you may want to look at the hotel option but if it going to be more of a larger group then the route of an apartment would save you money.
– Is it better to take a fly directly or somewhere else?
Flying directly is always gonna better the better option as it’s safer. Going via another stop can be cheaper but has it’s disadvantages as it takes longer, delays and security control issues.
– Where to stay – location and proximity from the main events
Best place to stay for fun and action is the infamous South Beach! Beautiful beaches, Lovely people, great vibes, plenty of places to eat and hang out and depending on the events people may want to attend you could be any thing from 5 minutes walk up to an hours drive away.
– What are the hotspots over that carnival week – what is not to be missed (fetes etc)
When it comes to South Beach its all about chilling/liming in the day & feteing by night! In the day nothing beats by pick a spot of the sands of the beach, setting up and liming it out with friend with the option to go for a swim in the shallow waters and interacting with the friendly locals. Also you have great hang out spots such as Wet Willies and Fat Tuesdays which sell frozen alcoholic beverages and various fast foods.
In terms of parties and fetes there is a wide varity to suit everyone from the die hard soca lover to the person that whats to here a mix of genres. So many to name but here’s a few…. Socavivour which is a package deal but optional to pick and choose certain events that they host which is caters for all not 100% soca. Theres also Redeye, Rave, Block-o-mania, Girl Power and mMany many more….. Key parties which is a must is Rise Miami Shine New York and the International Flag Party!
– What kind of budget per person are we looking at
If i was gonna to be 100% honest Miami is not cheap! If ya ass is broke dont go! To cover your flight, accommodation, fetes, travel and spending money you will be looking at least £1200 but can vary higher or lower depending on how many people going and what you plan to do on your stay.
– anything else you think is important/good to know
Buy your drinks and alcohol from local stores and avoid buying to many drinks in the clubs as you will soon find out you will be broke.
Mas band launch in August so various band to choose from so keep any eye out closer to that date.
If you do not plan to drive as you wish to Responsible Drink Rum then taxi are not cheap so to be sure to share with as many people possible to lower costs.
